Steinel L 585 S Classic Globe Wall light with 180 degree PIR White

A Globe Wall Light That Switches On When You Arrive

The Steinel L 585 S in white is an outdoor wall light with a built in motion sensor and a clear glass globe. It lights up as someone approaches and switches off again after a time you choose. The sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of up to 10 metres, which makes it a practical LED ready security light for a front door, building front or entrance. You supply the bulb, as it takes an E27 lamp up to 60W.

Classic White Globe with a Tilting Sensor

The housing and sensor head are white plastic, with a round transparent glass globe that shows the lamp inside. The shape is traditional and plain, so it suits a house front without drawing attention to the sensor. The sensor head tilts through 70 degrees, so you can adjust the detection zone to suit the way the light is mounted.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. You set the time it stays on, from 8 seconds up to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the potentiometer dials on the unit. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The light takes one E27 lamp of up to 60W, which is not supplied. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, and a courtyard or driveway wall. It mounts on a wall with surface wiring and is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
