Steinel L 585 S Classic Globe Wall light with 180 degree PIR Anthracite

A Globe Wall Light with Built In Motion Sensor

The Steinel L 585 S is a classic outdoor wall light with a clear glass globe and a passive infrared sensor mounted below it. It switches on when someone approaches, so it works as an outdoor sensor wall light and a practical security light for front doors and building entrances. The sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of up to 10 metres, and takes a standard E27 lamp of up to 60W.

Anthracite Finish with a Clear Glass Globe

This version has an anthracite grey plastic body that sits neatly against white, render or brick walls, with a clear glass globe over the lamp. The globe gives a soft, rounded glow rather than a harsh floodlit beam, which suits traditional and modern houses alike. The sensor head sits at the base and tilts through 70 degrees, so you can aim the detection zone exactly where you need it. The lamp is not included, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature you prefer.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor detects movement and switches the light on. You set how long it stays on, from 8 seconds up to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it responds to, from 2 to 2000 lux, with the two dials on the unit. Steinel gives a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The light takes one E27 lamp of up to 60W, and it runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply. It is a Class II fitting with an IP44 rating, and an IK03 impact rating. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, and for terraces, balconies, courtyards and driveways. It is a wall mounted fitting with surface wiring, and the IP44 rating protects it against splashing water from any direction.
