A Classic Globe Wall Light with a Built In Sensor

The Steinel L 560 S in black is an outdoor sensor wall light with a round clear glass globe. It switches on when it detects movement and off again after a time you choose. The sensor covers 140 degrees with a reach of up to 12 metres, so it works well as an outdoor security light for a front door or driveway while still looking like a traditional lantern.

Black Finish with a Clear Glass Globe

The wall plate and sensor housing are black plastic, which gives the globe a neat, dark frame against light or painted walls. The glass is clear with a slightly textured surface, so the lamp inside stays visible. The sensor sits in a pale lens at the base of the fitting and can be angled to point where you need it. Cover plates are supplied with this model to narrow the detection zone, and a sneak by guard helps catch movement close to the wall.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. You set how long it stays on, from 8 seconds to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the dials on the unit. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The fitting takes one E27 lamp of up to 60W, and the bulb is not included, so you can choose a warm white LED or other E27 lamp to suit. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply at 50Hz and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the front door, the terrace or balcony, a courtyard or driveway, and all round the building. It fixes to a wall with surface wiring and is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
