Steinel L 15 Classic Lantern Wall Uplight with 180 degree PIR - White

A Classic Lantern with a Built In Motion Sensor

The Steinel L 15 in white is a traditional outdoor wall lantern with a passive infrared sensor fitted below it. It works as an outdoor sensor light and a LED security light for front doors and entrances: it comes on when someone approaches and switches off again after a time you choose. The sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of up to 10 metres, and it takes a standard E27 bulb of up to 60W.

White Lantern in Plastic and Clear Glazing

The six sided lantern has a white finned top with a pointed finial and clear panels, so the bulb is visible inside. The wall bracket and the sensor head beneath it are white too, with a frosted lens on the sensor. The body and panels are plastic, which suits a traditional look without the weight of a cast metal lantern. The sensor head tilts through 90 degrees to point the detection zone where you need it.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor detects movement across 180 degrees, up to 10 metres directly ahead and around 3 metres at the sides. You set the time the light stays on, from 8 seconds to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it responds to, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the dials on the unit. Steinel recommends a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The lantern takes one E27 bulb, up to 60W, and the bulb is not included. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting, rated IP44 and IK03. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, and a courtyard or driveway. It fits on a wall with surface wiring, and works well beside a porch or entrance where you want a welcoming light that also acts as a deterrent.
