Steinel IS 240 DUO with PIR - Black

A Wide Angle Sensor for Corners and Entrances

The Steinel IS 240 DUO in black is an infrared motion sensor that switches your outdoor lighting on when someone approaches. It covers 240 degrees with a reach of up to 12 metres, so one unit can watch a wide area, which makes it a good choice for a PIR sensor on a front door, driveway or garage wall. It is a sensor switch, not a light. You wire it in to control the lights you already have, up to 1000W of resistive load.

Black Finish with a Frosted Sensor Dome

The housing is black plastic with the Steinel logo on the front and ribbed detailing on the back plate. The sensor sits in a frosted, faceted dome underneath. A corner bracket is included, so you can mount it on an outside corner and cover two sides of a building with one sensor. Shrouds let you block off parts of the detection zone, for example to stop it picking up a pavement or a neighbour's garden. The same sensor is also made in white.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor detects movement and switches the connected light on. You set the time it stays on, from 10 seconds to 15 minutes, and the twilight threshold, from 2 to 2000 lux, with the two potentiometer dials. The 12 metre reach is tangential, meaning across the sensor, and the reach straight towards it is up to 5 metres. The mounting height can be 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It runs from a 230 to 240V, 50Hz mains supply and is rated Class II and IP54, so it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for outdoors, a front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, and a courtyard or driveway. It fits on a flat wall or an outside corner with surface wiring. It can also be used indoors, for example in a garage or hallway.
