A Motion Sensor for Entrances and Driveways
The Steinel IS 180-2 in white is a wall mounted PIR motion sensor for indoors and out. It is a sensor only and does not give light itself. It detects movement across 180 degrees and switches a separate light on, with a reach you can set to 5 or 12 metres. That makes it a useful outdoor security light sensor for a building front, driveway or side passage.
White Finish with a Domed Sensor Head
The body is a slim white rectangle with the Steinel name along one edge. A half dome at the lower end holds the faceted sensor lens, so it sits neatly on a pale rendered or painted wall. It is a compact unit, 56 x 76 x 120mm. For corner mounting, Steinel offers a corner wall bracket, which is bought separately.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor picks up the movement of people and switches your light on. It covers 180 degrees, and the reach can be set to 5 metres or 12 metres to suit the space. You set the time the light stays on, up to 15 minutes, and the twilight level it responds to, from 2 to 2000 lux, with the two adjustable dials. Shrouds can be fitted to customise the detection zone, for example to keep a neighbour's path or a road out of range. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 4 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It runs from a 230V mains supply and switches a load of up to 1000W (resistive loads such as ordinary lamps). It is a Class II product with surface wiring. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard and a driveway. It is rated IP54, so it is protected against dust and splashing water, and suits an exposed outdoor wall. It can also be used indoors, for example in a large hallway or garage.
