A Wall Mounted Motion Sensor for Outdoor Lights
The Steinel IS 140-2 in white is an infrared motion sensor that switches a separate light on when someone approaches. It is a wall mounted outdoor motion detector with a 140 degree detection angle and a reach of up to 14 metres. It is rated IP54 and suits driveways, doorways and the sides of the house, indoors or out. It does not give light itself, so it is wired in to control the lights you already have.
White Finish with a Swivelling Sensor Head
The housing is white plastic with the Steinel logo on the front, and a frosted white lens covers the sensor. The sensor head turns through 180 degrees and tilts through 90 degrees, so you can point the detection zone exactly where you want it.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor picks up the movement of warm bodies and switches the connected light on. You choose how long it stays on, from 8 seconds to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the two dials on the unit. The best mounting height is 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It works from a 230 to 240V, 50Hz mains supply, is a Class II product, and uses surface wiring. Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, and a courtyard or driveway. Pair it with a floodlight or wall light to make a practical security light that only comes on when it is needed.
