A Motion Sensor for Targeted Detection Close to the Building
The Steinel IS 130-2 in anthracite is a wall mounted infrared motion detector that switches a connected light on when someone moves into its detection zone. It is built for targeted detection close to the building, with a 130 degree angle of coverage and a reach of up to 12 metres. It can be used indoors and out, which makes it a practical outdoor security sensor for a front door, driveway or courtyard. It does not give light itself: it switches the light or lights you wire to it, up to 600W.
Anthracite Finish with a Pivoting Sensor Head
The housing is a dark anthracite grey with the Steinel name on the front, and the sensor head sits in a frosted white lens at the bottom. It is a compact unit, 87 x 78 x 110mm, so it sits neatly on a wall without dominating it. The sensor head turns through 50 degrees and tilts through 90 degrees, so you can aim the detection zone at the area you want to cover and away from places you do not, such as a neighbour's garden or a busy road.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor picks up the movement of people and switches the connected light on. You set how long it stays on, from 8 seconds up to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the potentiometer dials on the unit, so it can be set to work only in the dark. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It runs from a 230 to 240V, 50Hz mains supply, is wired with surface cable, and is rated IP54, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for all round the building: front and rear doors, a driveway, a courtyard, a terrace or balcony. Fitted beside an outdoor light, it gives automatic lighting when you arrive home with your hands full, and a security light that comes on when someone approaches.
