A Stainless Steel Path Light That Switches On for You
The Steinel GL 60 LED is a free standing outdoor sensor light for paths, drives and garden edges. A built in infrared sensor switches the light on when it detects movement, so it works as a practical LED security light as well as a path light. It gives 781 lumens at 3000K warm white from 9.78W, and the sensor covers a full 360 degrees with a radial reach of 12 metres.
Stainless Steel Column with an Opal Glass Tube
The housing is stainless steel with a round flanged base for fixing to the ground, and the light comes from a tall opal glass tube that sits on top of the column. The glass gives a soft, even glow rather than a harsh point of light. Steinel lists it in its datasheet as the GL 60 S. The LED rod and the glass are both available as replacement parts from Steinel.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor detects movement all the way round the light, with a radial reach of 12 metres and a tangential reach of 24 metres. You set the time it stays on, from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, and the twilight level it reacts to, from 2 to 2000 lux, using potentiometer dials on the unit. A soft light start brings the light up gently, and a base light function can hold it at a low level of 10 to 50 percent between detections. If you want it on constantly, a manual override switches it on for 4 hours. The LED is a Steinel system with a CRI of 80 to 89, an E27 base and a rated life of 25,000 hours. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting, rated IP44 and IK03, and suitable for temperatures from minus 20 to 50 degrees C. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for outdoor areas all round the building: a garden, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard and a driveway. The 360 degree sensor suits a spot where people approach from several directions, such as the corner of a path or the edge of a drive.

Questions People Ask
Does the GL 60 LED switch on by itself? Yes. Its infrared sensor detects movement through 360 degrees with a radial reach of 12 metres and switches the light on automatically.
Can I stop it coming on in daylight? Yes. The twilight setting sets the light level it responds to, from 2 to 2000 lux, so it can be limited to darkness.
Can I leave it on all night? You can switch on a manual override that keeps it lit for 4 hours. There is also a base light function that holds it at 10 to 50 percent brightness between detections.
Can the LED be replaced? Yes. Steinel lists the LED as replaceable and offers a replacement LED rod and replacement glass for this model.
Who should install this light? We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Can I return it if it is not right? Yes. You can return this item within 14 days of delivery, provided it is unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging. See our returns policy for full details.
