A Sunset Silhouette in Veined Glass
The Sunset wall sconce in Marble glass pairs Schwung's signature bracket arm and single glass globe with a shade that looks almost mineral in character. Soft internal veining runs through the glass in place of a flat colour, so instead of one even tone the globe shifts subtly across its surface, closer to watching light move through cloud or stone than through a standard opal shade.
In Marble Glass
Marble glass is produced by introducing milky strands into the glass while it is still molten, so the veining sits inside the material rather than on its surface. The pattern is different on every globe, and it interacts with the light source inside to produce a glow with visible depth and movement rather than a single flat wash of brightness. It sits between the fully diffusing Opal Mat finish and the more overtly textured Dries Ribbon glass, offering pattern without losing softness.
Choose Your Finish
The brass bracket arm and backplate are available in Black Gunmetal, Lacquered Burnished Brass, or Polished Nickel, each hand finished in Poland alongside the glass.
How It Works
Each Sunset sconce takes a single E14 LED bulb (not included), rated at 5W with a warm 2700K colour temperature, and is compatible with low voltage electronic dimmers. The fitting measures approximately 15cm wide and 31cm high, projecting 16.1cm from the wall, and weighs around 1.2kg. The glass globe can be fitted facing upward or downward, changing whether the veining is lit from below or above. Supplied as the wall fitting and brass backplate, wiring should be connected by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
The visual depth of Marble glass suits rooms where it can be seen properly rather than glanced past, a pair either side of a bed where the veining is visible at close range, above a console table in a hallway where the light and the glass pattern both catch the eye, or on a landing or staircase wall where a single sconce needs to do more than just illuminate the steps.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Every fitting, including the Sunset sconce, is made to order there in solid brass with mouth blown glass. According to Schwung, the borosilicate glass used across the range is blown thin and light, similar to a soap bubble, yet strong enough to withstand daily use in the way laboratory glass does.
