Sixteen Points of Light Along One Bar

Riegel means bar in German, and this chandelier is built around exactly that idea, a single straight brass bar fixed to the ceiling, with sixteen glass globes dropped beneath it at even intervals. Instead of gathering the lights into a cluster, Schwung has stretched them out into a line, so the fitting reads more like an illuminated beam than a conventional chandelier. In Marble glass, each of those sixteen globes carries its own individual veining, so the line is never quite uniform from one end to the other.

In Marble Glass

Marble is created by introducing pale, opaque strands into the glass while each globe is still being mouth blown, so they swirl and settle differently every time. The result is a softly veined, milky pattern that runs through the glass rather than sitting on the surface, giving the light a layered, shifting quality instead of a flat glow. Across sixteen globes, no two carry quite the same pattern, which is part of what makes the Marble version of the Riegel 16 feel handmade rather than manufactured.

Choose Your Finish

The Marble glass on this Riegel 16 is fitted to a brass bar available in three finishes: Black Gunmetal, Lacquered Burnished Brass, or Polished Nickel, all hand applied at Schwung's Poland workshop. Against the milky Marble glass, the darker Gunmetal tends to read more graphic, while the Lacquered Brass and Polished Nickel let the glass take the attention.

How It Works

The fitting takes sixteen E14 LED bulbs, each rated under 5W and dimmable using a compatible electronic (ELV or trailing edge) dimmer. Combined output sits in the region of 8,000 lumens at a warm 2700K. The bar measures 175.8cm in length, and the complete fitting weighs 31.2kg, so check the fitting point can support that before installing. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms only. Bulbs are included.

Where It Works Best

The Riegel 16's length makes it suited to rooms built for it, a long dining table, a kitchen with a run of island to match, or an open plan living and dining space with enough ceiling height to let the drop of sixteen globes hang properly. It is a fitting to plan a room around rather than add as an afterthought.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Every fitting is made to order in solid brass and mouth blown glass at their Namyslow workshop. According to Schwung, producing the Marble effect consistently across sixteen separate globes for one fitting, while still keeping each globe's veining genuinely individual, is one of the more difficult techniques their glassmakers work with.

Will every globe on the Marble version look the same?
No. The Marble veining forms differently in every globe as it is mouth blown, so each of the sixteen will vary slightly, which is part of the appeal of this glass.

Can the Riegel 16 be dimmed?
Yes, provided you use a compatible electronic (ELV or trailing edge) dimmer with the included LED bulbs.
