A Sputnik Stretched Into an Oval
The Molecule Spark Oval 17 takes the same brass nucleus and radiating arm structure as the Spark Round chandeliers, then elongates the whole arrangement into an oval rather than a sphere. Seventeen arms fan out along the long axis more than the short one, so the finished fitting reads as a stretched burst of light rather than a perfectly round one, built specifically for spaces where a circular chandelier would not sit naturally.
In Transparent Glass
In transparent glass, the LED inside each of the seventeen hemispheres stays fully visible, along with the brass arms behind them, so the oval reads as a dense field of individual points of light rather than one glowing shape. It suits a room where the fitting is meant to be examined as much as switched on, particularly along a long dining table where guests sit beneath its full length.
Choose Your Finish
The frame is available in Black Gunmetal or Lacquered Burnished Brass. Black Gunmetal lets the seventeen transparent globes stand out against a dark, receding frame, while Lacquered Burnished Brass adds warmth along the arms themselves, so the brass catches light between the glass as the oval stretches overhead.
How It Works
The chandelier takes 17 x E27, 5W LED bulbs, included, at 2700K warm white and around 7650 to 8500 lumens combined. It is dimmable, but only with an electronic dimmer switch, and is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms. The fitting measures approximately 939mm long by 679mm wide, with a drop of around 796mm, and weighs approximately 12.8kg. Each glass hemisphere is around 120mm in diameter.
Where It Works Best
Its elongated shape makes the Spark Oval 17 a natural fit over a long rectangular dining table, a large kitchen island, or a boardroom table, anywhere a round chandelier would leave awkward gaps at each end. It needs a room long enough to let the oval sit centred over the furniture beneath it rather than crowding one side.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. According to Schwung, stretching the Spark silhouette into an oval means each of the seventeen arms is cut and angled individually rather than repeated identically, so the proportions read correctly along both the long and short axis.
