One Arm, One Globe, One Point of Light

The Molecule Single takes the Spark family down to its simplest form: a single glass hemisphere held on one slender brass rod, projecting from a compact wall plate. Where the larger Molecule fittings build a cluster of globes into a starburst, the Single isolates just one, making the individual hemisphere and the brass rod that holds it the whole composition.

In Transparent Glass

In transparent glass, the hemisphere holds the light as a clear, glowing form rather than softening it into a diffuse wash. The brass rod and fixing plate stay visible through the glass, so the fitting reads as a small, precise object on the wall even when unlit. It is the more luminous of the two Molecule Single finishes, direct rather than atmospheric.

Choose Your Finish

The frame is available in Black Gunmetal or Lacquered Burnished Brass. Black Gunmetal recedes against the wall and lets the transparent globe stand out as the focal point. Lacquered Burnished Brass adds warmth to the rod and plate themselves, so the metal catches light alongside the glass.

How It Works

The Molecule Single takes 1 x E27, 5W LED bulb, included, at 2700K warm white and around 450 to 500 lumens. It is dimmable, but only with an electronic dimmer switch, and is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms. The fitting measures 508mm in height and projects 144mm from the wall, with a fixing plate 125mm across, and weighs approximately 1.8kg.

Where It Works Best

At this scale, the Molecule Single works well as a bedside light either side of a bed, in a hallway, or paired either side of a mirror or piece of art. Because it projects one clean point of light rather than a spread, it is easier to place in pairs or small groups than a larger fitting would be.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. According to Schwung, every fitting, however small, is made to order in solid brass and mouth blown glass at the Namyslow workshop, with the single globe here individually fitted by hand rather than produced as one of a batch.

Is the Molecule Single meant to be used on its own or in pairs?
Either works. A single fitting suits a hallway or landing, while a pair either side of a bed or mirror gives a more symmetrical look.

Can it be dimmed?
Yes, but only with an electronic dimmer switch, not a standard leading edge dimmer.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?
No, it is rated IP20, which means it is intended for dry indoor rooms only.
