Eight Arms, Two Ways to Mount It

The Molecule 8 gathers eight glass hemispheres on brass rods radiating from a central plate, built flush enough to sit close against a ceiling or a wall. It works as a semi flush ceiling light in a room with lower ceilings, or as a large scale wall sconce where a single statement piece is wanted instead of a run of smaller ones.

In Frosted Glass

In frosted glass, each of the eight hemispheres becomes a soft disc of even light rather than a bright point, and the bulbs behind the glass stay hidden. Mounted flush, that diffusion matters more than usual, since the glass is often viewed close up and side on, and frosted glass avoids any harsh glare from an angle that a clearer glass wouldn't hide as well.

Choose Your Finish

Available in Black Gunmetal or Lacquered Burnished Brass. Black Gunmetal recedes against the wall or ceiling, leaving the eight glass hemispheres to stand out on their own. Lacquered Burnished Brass brings warmth to the rods themselves, so the fitting reads as a brass and glass composition rather than glass alone.

How It Works

It takes 8 x 5W LED bulbs, included, at 2700K warm white and around 3600 to 4000 lumens combined, run from a standard 220 to 240V supply. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms. As a flush fitting it measures 736mm wide, 956mm high and projects 234mm from the wall or ceiling, and weighs approximately 6.4kg.

Where It Works Best

Its dual mounting makes it useful in awkward spots, a stairwell or landing with limited ceiling height, above a run of kitchen cabinetry, or as a wall mounted alternative to a pendant in a dining room. It also suits hallways and bedrooms where a wide, low profile fitting is easier to live with than something that hangs down.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. According to Schwung, every fitting is made to order in solid brass and mouth blown glass at the Namyslow workshop, with each of the eight arms on this piece fitted and finished by hand.
