A Softly Diffused Sphere of Light
The Glass Globe Opal Single Pendant takes Schwung's simplest idea, a single glass sphere on a brass drop, and gives it the most liveable version of its light. Where the transparent version puts the bulb on show, this one wraps it in mouth blown opal glass that fully diffuses the light, so the whole globe glows evenly with none of the glare or hot spot a bare filament would give. It reads as one continuous sphere of soft white light rather than a lamp you can see into, which is what makes it work in so many rooms without a shade or diffuser of its own.
Five Sizes, Three Finishes
This pendant is sold in five globe diameters, 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, 500mm and 600mm, each available in Black Gunmetal, Lacquered Burnished Brass or Polished Nickel, so the fifteen listed variants are simply that size and finish combination. The 200mm and 300mm globes suit a single drop over a small table, a desk or a bedside, staying compact and quiet. At 400mm and above the globe becomes the room's focal point, the kind of scale that reads as a considered piece of furniture rather than a light fitting, well suited to a stairwell, a double height space or a dining table that needs one strong central drop instead of a cluster. Gunmetal gives the glass a darker, more graphic frame, lacquered burnished brass warms the whole fitting with a classic glow, and polished nickel gives it a cooler, more reflective edge.
How It Works
Each pendant is supplied with one 8W LED bulb (E27/E26 fitting) at 3000K, delivering around 750 to 800 lumens, and is dimmable, but only with electronic ELV or trailing edge dimmers, not standard leading edge dimmers. It carries an IP20 rating, so it's intended for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or covered outdoor spaces. The fitting is supplied with extension rods so the drop height can be adjusted to suit your ceiling. Weight scales with globe size, from around 2.2kg at 200mm up to about 8.8kg at the 600mm size, worth checking against your ceiling fixing before ordering the larger globes. It's CE and UL certified with a 2 year warranty.
Where It Works Best
A single small globe works well as a bedside or reading pendant, or repeated along a run above a kitchen island where several identical drops create a calm, even rhythm. The larger 400mm to 600mm sizes are better used alone, as the one statement drop over a dining table or in a stairwell or entrance hall with the ceiling height to let the globe breathe. Because the light is fully diffused, it suits rooms where you want genuine ambient light rather than a directional pool, and its dry rated build keeps it to living, dining and hallway spaces rather than bathrooms.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen, and every fitting is still made to order at the Namyslow workshop. The Glass Globe belongs to what Schwung calls its Classic concept, a family of lamps the brand describes as built from "soap bubble" glass and exposed bulbs, pairing brass frames with hand finished glass. According to Schwung, the opal globes are mouth blown and given a triplex opal coating that diffuses the light without dulling it, a detail that can vary slightly piece to piece as handmade glass does.

Questions People Ask
What's the difference between this and the transparent Glass Globe pendant?
This opal version fully diffuses the light so the whole globe glows evenly, while the transparent version shows the bulb directly and gives a brighter, more direct light. The opal glass also comes in larger sizes, up to 600mm, against the transparent globe's maximum of 350mm.
Can I adjust how low the pendant hangs?
Yes, this version is supplied with extension rods, so an electrician can set the drop height to suit your ceiling at installation.
Is this pendant suitable for a bathroom?
No, it's rated IP20, which means it's designed for dry indoor rooms only, not bathrooms or other damp locations.
