A Bright Line Above the Mirror

Four fluted glass shades run along a slim chrome bar, each pointed down and forward so the light falls across the basin rather than glaring back at you in the mirror. It is sized for a wide vanity or a double sink, somewhere a single wall light would leave one end of the mirror in shadow.

Choosing Your Finish

This version is finished in Polished Chrome, a bright, highly reflective metal that photographs almost like glass against the frosted white shades, visible in the photos as a crisp mirror shine on both the bar and the round wall plate. The same fitting is also made in Brushed Brass, a warmer, softly textured gold for bathrooms built around brass or gold hardware. The glass shades are identical on both, so it is really a question of matching your existing taps and towel rail.

How It Works

Each arm holds a 3.5W G9 lamp, four in total, and bulbs are not included. Dimming only works if you fit dimmable G9 bulbs with a compatible dimmer, an ordinary G9 will simply switch on and off regardless of the switch fitted. Being wired to Class I, it needs a genuine earth connection, so fitting is a job for a qualified electrician rather than a DIY swap. Its IP44 rating gives it splash protection suitable for the bathroom lighting zones around a basin.

This is the wide format Swell, built to run the full length of a double vanity or a large mirror, spreading four points of light evenly rather than concentrating them at one end. At 81.3cm across it needs a proper run of wall, so check your mirror width before ordering. Quoizel also builds the Swell as a single light sconce for narrower walls or smaller bathrooms, one shade rather than four, which suits either side of a mirrored cabinet better than the full bar does.

The Phillips Family Behind Quoizel

Quoizel was founded in 1930 by Michael Chaikin as a small Manhattan lamp maker. Ira Phillips joined the business in 1964 as Director of Merchandising and Sales, and by 1986 he had bought the company outright, and it has stayed in Phillips family hands ever since. Will this fit above a standard single basin? It can, but at 81.3cm wide it is really built for a double basin or a large mirror. Over a single narrow basin the single light Swell sconce is usually the better fit.

What bulbs do I need? Four G9 bulbs at 3.5W or lower, not included. Use dimmable G9 bulbs if you want it on a dimmer switch.

Does it need professional installation? Yes, it is Class I and needs an earth connection, so it should be wired in by a qualified electrician.
