A Fitting That Sits Flush and Still Throws Plenty of Light
The Kolt semi flush brings the same layered glass design as the wall lights in the range up onto the ceiling, spreading three shades around a central point rather than along a wall. Sitting close to the ceiling rather than hanging down, it suits a bathroom where the ceiling height rules out a proper pendant.
The Chrome and the Glass
Polished chrome is the only finish offered here, carried across a round ceiling plate and three short curved arms that fan outward and down. Each arm ends in the same two layer shade used elsewhere in the Kolt range, a squared outer cylinder of clear glass wrapped around a sandblasted opal glass sleeve, so the bulb stays hidden behind soft, even light rather than showing as a bright point.
How It Works
It takes three 3.5W LED G9 bulbs, none supplied, so these need buying separately before fitting. It dims if you choose dimmable G9 lamps, since there is no dimmer built into the fitting itself. This is a Class I fitting, so it needs an earth connection, and being hardwired it should be fitted by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
Rated IP44, this is built for bathroom use, though it is still worth checking our bathroom lighting zones guide before fitting it near a bath or shower. At 38.4cm across and 29.9cm tall, it sits centrally on the ceiling rather than to one side of a mirror like the wall mounted versions in the Kolt range, and its light spreads outward in three directions rather than along a single bar, which suits a squarer bathroom better than a long, narrow one.
A Move South That Shaped the Company
Quoizel spent its first six decades in New York, but in 1996 it moved its headquarters, manufacturing and distribution to a 305,000 square foot facility near Charleston, South Carolina, where it still operates today. The design studio has stayed there ever since, and the low country light and materials around Charleston continue to feed into how the company designs its fittings, this one included.
