Two Points of Sparkle Either Side of the Mirror
Switch this on and the whole bathroom catches the light. Two faceted crystal glass shades sit either side of a polished chrome bar, each one cut in slim vertical panels that throw off little rainbows whenever the bulb behind them is lit. It reads as jewellery for the wall rather than a straightforward bathroom fitting.
The Finish
Divine comes in polished chrome only, a mirror bright metal that picks up every reflection in the room. The backplate and arms are chrome, and the shades themselves are clear crystal glass, cut into vertical facets and pinned top and bottom so the whole shade holds together as a solid faceted block rather than loose panels. In the photos you can see how the facets bend and multiply the light from the G9 bulbs inside, an effect a plain glass shade would not give you.
How It Works
Two G9 LED bulbs at 3.5W each run this fitting, and they are not included so you will need to source your own. It is dimmable, but only if you fit dimmable G9 bulbs, a standard non dimmable bulb will not dim however good your dimmer switch is. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earth connection, and being hardwired to the mains it should go in by a qualified electrician rather than as a DIY job.
Where It Works Best
Rated IP44, Divine is happy above a bathroom mirror or basin, in a zone where splashes reach it but a direct jet of water would not. Full detail on which zones allow which fittings is in our bathroom lighting zones guide. This 2 light version measures 34.3cm across, wide enough to sit over a single vanity mirror with a shade landing on each side. If your mirror is wider, the 3 light Divine adds a third shade and stretches to 57.8cm, and if you only need one point of light for a narrower space, the single light version is 12cm wide.
The Manhattan Company Behind the Chrome
Quoizel started in 1930 in Manhattan, founded by Michael Chaikin, and its very first products were hurricane lamps burning oil rather than electricity. As homes wired up over the following decades, the company moved with them, from portable oil lamps to hardwired chandeliers, pendants, sconces and ceiling fittings, which is the same shift you can trace in a fitting like Divine, a wall light that would once have needed a wick and now runs on an LED capsule.
