Tahiti Rope Pendant, the rope light built for wet rooms
The Tahiti pairs a hand finished vintage brass shade with a full 1.5 metre length of natural jute rope, suspending it from a compact 12cm ceiling rose. At 30cm wide and 172.5cm in total drop, it has the presence of a proper pendant without overwhelming a smaller room. The shade is metal, not glass, so light spills from its open underside in a warm, directional pool rather than a diffused glow.
How It Works
Take one 6.5W E27 bulb (not included) and the Tahiti will dim beautifully if you choose a dimmable bulb, though it works just as well on a simple on/off circuit. The jute rope is a genuine structural support, not decorative wrapping, so the shade hangs securely at the full 1.5 metre drop. Being Class II rated, it does not require an earth connection, which keeps installation straightforward.
Where It Works Best
This is the rope pendant that goes where most rope pendants can not. Its IP65 rating means it copes with steam and splashes, so it suits bathroom Zone 1 and Zone 2, a shower room, or a humid utility space, just as happily as a covered veranda or outdoor dining area. Indoors, hang it over a freestanding bath, a bathroom vanity, or a covered porch for a look that feels coastal without being twee.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting began in 2009, when architect Mike Treanor took on a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and turned it into a working studio. What started as one restoration project has grown into a team of more than 100 craftspeople, shipping to over 55 countries. Alongside the ceramic pieces the studio is known for, Mullan has spent years exploring other natural materials, and this jute rope range is part of that ongoing work.

What bulb does the Tahiti take?
It takes a single 6.5W E27 bulb, sold separately. Choose a warm white LED for the truest match to the vintage brass finish.
Can I dim this light?
Yes. Fit a dimmable E27 bulb and the Tahiti will work on any standard dimmer circuit. With a non dimmable bulb it will simply run at full brightness.
Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Tahiti is IP65 rated, which covers Zone 1 (directly above a bath or shower, up to 2.25m) as well as Zone 2. It is also rated for covered outdoor use.
Does the rope take any weight, or is it just for show?
The jute rope is a genuine part of the suspension, not a decorative sleeve, so it carries the full weight of the brass shade safely across the 1.5 metre drop.
