Some pendants are content to provide light. The Mullan Naxos Rope Pendant does considerably more than that. The jute rope suspension adds 1.5 metres of natural texture above the shade, and when combined with the crafted shade below, the result is a pendant that has the presence and character of a piece of furniture rather than a light fitting. Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor inside a restored 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland. The brand now employs over 100 craftspeople and exports to more than 55 countries, having built a reputation among some of the world's most discerning interior designers and hospitality operators. Previous clients include Google, Guinness, Hilton Hotels and the Titanic Hotel Belfast. The Naxos sits within a range of rope and natural material pendants that represent Mullan's commitment to exploring beautiful, sustainable materials beyond its celebrated ceramic collection, combining the warmth of natural jute with premium metalwork and exceptional finish quality.
The Naxos is best suited to spaces with height and volume — a double height hallway, a large open plan kitchen and dining room, a hotel lobby or a statement living room where the scale of the fitting can be fully appreciated. Its natural jute rope and considered proportions make it a natural companion for interiors built around natural materials, warm neutrals and quality craftsmanship. It pairs beautifully with stone, timber, linen and warm metal hardware, and it works as a single dramatic pendant or as part of a considered group installation.
