Naxos Rope Pendant, scaled up for double height spaces
The Naxos takes the same vintage brass shade and jute rope pairing as the rest of the range and turns the volume up, with a 38cm shade that reads as a genuine statement piece. The total drop runs to 172.5cm, including a full 1.5 metre of natural rope, hung from a neat 12cm ceiling rose. It is the largest of Mullan's rope pendants, built for rooms with the height and floor space to carry it.
How It Works
A single 6.5W E27 bulb (not included) sits inside the open brass shade, casting light downward and out through the wide mouth of the fitting. Choose a dimmable bulb and the Naxos will dim smoothly; fit a standard bulb and it runs at full brightness. The rope itself does the structural work of the suspension, and as a Class II fitting it does not need an earth connection.
Where It Works Best
Scale is the whole point here. The Naxos is built for double height stairwells, hotel and restaurant lobbies, entrance halls, or any room where a single pendant needs to hold its own in a large volume of space. Rated IP65, it also stands up to a covered outdoor terrace or an entrance porch exposed to the weather, so it is not confined to indoor use only.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mike Treanor founded Mullan Lighting in 2009 after restoring a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and converting it into the studio's home. Since then the workshop has grown to over 100 craftspeople and now exports to more than 55 countries. Best known for its ceramic lighting, the studio has also built out a parallel range in natural materials such as jute rope, of which the Naxos is the largest example.

What bulb does the Naxos take?
A single 6.5W E27 bulb, sold separately. A warm white LED suits the brass finish well.
Is the Naxos dimmable?
Yes, provided you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. With a non dimmable bulb it will run at full brightness only.
Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Naxos is IP65 rated, covering Zone 1 (directly above a bath or shower, up to 2.25m) and Zone 2, as well as covered outdoor locations.
How long is the drop, and can it be shortened?
The total drop is 172.5cm, made up of 1.5 metres of jute rope plus the shade and ceiling rose. Speak to your electrician about safely shortening the rope if you need a lower drop.
