Red Iron and IP44 for a Warm Bathroom Glow
The Kirhii Pendant in Red Iron is a wide, low IP44 bathroom pendant, 13.7cm tall and 27cm wide, with a ceramic shade hand painted in tones running from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre. The glaze is fired rather than simply applied, and the firing process produces natural variation across the surface that cannot be fully controlled, meaning every Kirhii Red Iron pendant that leaves the kiln is genuinely unique. In a bathroom that might otherwise be dominated by white tile and chrome, this finish brings a grounded, earthy warmth instead.
How It Works
A glass diffuser beneath the ceramic shade provides the IP44 rating and softens the E27 bulb's light into an even glow across the room. As the bulb warms in the evening the red iron ceramic above deepens in tone, moving from a warm terracotta by day to a richer, more atmospheric rust in the evening. It is compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs for full control over brightness and mood.
Where It Works Best
Above a freestanding bath, the Kirhii Red Iron brings a sense of warmth and weight to a room, and pairs particularly well with natural stone, dark timber and woven textiles. In a shower room or wet room with warm neutral tones, the earthy glaze feels grounded rather than clinical. Rated for Zone 2, it can be positioned in the area beyond 0.6m from the edge of a bath or shower.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish to reflect the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the landscape surrounding the village. More than 100 craftspeople now work at Mullan Village, and every piece is made entirely to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass, with finished lights exported to more than 55 countries.

FAQs
Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Kirhii Pendant is IP44 rated for Zone 2, the area beyond 0.6m from the edge of a bath or shower where protection against water splashing from any direction is required. It is not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1. Please check with your installer if you are unsure which zone applies.
Can I use this above a freestanding bath?
Yes, provided the installation point falls within Zone 2. Your NICEIC electrician will confirm the exact zone based on the position of the bath and the proposed hanging point.
Does the red iron finish vary between pieces?
Yes. It is a fired glaze with natural variation in tone and texture, so each pendant is genuinely one of a kind.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
