The Mullan Kirhii Pendant in Marbled finish is a pendant light with the quiet confidence of a piece that knows exactly what it is. The marbled ceramic shade is shaped by hand in the ceramics studio at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, with the swirling tones of cream, warm grey and soft stone applied individually to every shade. Because the marbling process is entirely hand worked, no two shades come out of the kiln looking identical. The variation is not a flaw — it is the essential character of handmade ceramic work, and it is what separates this from anything a production line could ever produce.
Mullan Lighting has been making lights by hand in Mullan Village since 2009. Founder Mike Treanor, an architect, saw the derelict 19th century flax mill at the heart of the village as an opportunity to build something meaningful, both as a business and as a contribution to a community whose name, derived from the Irish muileann, meaning mill, had always been tied to the act of making things. The ceramics collection that grew from that vision draws its aesthetic from the natural and architectural landscape of the village and its surroundings, with finishes developed to reflect the colours and textures of that world. Today Mullan employs over 100 people and ships its handmade ceramic lights to more than 55 countries.
The Kirhii Marbled pendant is a versatile and beautiful choice above a dining table, where the natural tones of the shade complement virtually any interior palette. It works equally well as a single pendant above a bedside area, as a feature pendant in a living room or hallway, or as part of a grouped installation above a kitchen island. The marbled finish pairs naturally with stone, pale timber, linen, rattan and warm metal hardware, and it has a timelessness that means it will not need replacing as design trends evolve.
Available with a choice of antique brass, antique silver, matte black, polished brass and satin brass fittings. Made to order at Mullan Village using sustainable clay and recycled brass, with a lead time of approximately three weeks.
