Mullan Kingii Pendant - Black Clay with Finish Options

Black Clay and IP44: Bathroom Pendant With Genuine Craft

The Kingii Pendant in Black Clay takes the deep, matte authority of the black clay ceramic finish and combines it with an IP44 waterproof rating, making it one of the few bathroom pendants on the market with genuine handmade craft quality behind it. At 20cm tall and 20cm wide it has a sculptural presence on the ceiling of a bathroom or wet room, the ceramic shade rising from the fitting plate with a form that is interesting from every angle. The black clay finish is applied by hand at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and fixed through firing. The glass diffuser provides the IP44 compliance while the ceramic does the visual work above it.

How It Works

The Kingii Pendant is supplied with a glass diffuser for wet environment compliance. The E27 bulb sits within the shade, the glass diffuser softening and diffusing the light downward and outward into the room. The black clay ceramic body sits above, absorbing light at the surface and adding depth and material weight to the ceiling. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs for full mood control in a bathroom setting.

Where It Works Best

Above a freestanding bath the Black Clay Kingii creates a focal point of genuine material quality. In a shower room or wet room it brings handmade ceramic craft to a space that standard IP rated fittings treat with no design ambition. The black clay finish pairs well with natural stone, dark grout, white metro tiles and brushed or antique brass tapware. For a spa-like atmosphere with warm, dim light above the bath, this is the pendant to choose.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The black clay finish draws from the iron rich soils and ancient bog landscapes of that part of Ireland. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

FAQs

Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Kingii Pendant is IP44 rated for Zone 2, the area beyond 0.6m from the edge of a bath or shower where protection against water splashing from any direction is required. It is not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1. Please check with your installer if you are unsure which zone applies to your installation point.

Can I use this above a freestanding bath?
Yes, provided the installation point falls within Zone 2. Your NICEIC electrician will confirm the exact zone based on the position of the bath and the proposed hanging point.

Will my pendant look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The black clay finish is hand applied and fired, so surface texture and depth of tone vary naturally between pieces.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
