Alabaster is one of the oldest lighting materials in existence, used for centuries to diffuse candlelight in sacred and significant spaces. The Mullan Dundee Circular Alabaster Wall Light brings that ancient material quality into a contemporary fitting with a form that is clean, circular and confidently minimal. The round stone shade emits a gentle, even glow as light passes through its natural alabaster, with the warm tones and natural veining of the stone creating a quality of light that no glass or synthetic diffuser can replicate. Each shade is unique, because no two pieces of alabaster are ever the same.
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, and built within it a studio that now employs over 100 craftspeople and exports to more than 55 countries. The brand has always pushed beyond a single material or aesthetic, developing lighting that draws from natural materials, craft processes and the design heritage of the Irish landscape. The Dundee Circular is part of the alabaster collection, a range that represents Mullan at its most refined and considered, combining exceptional natural materials with the precision metalwork and finish quality for which the studio is known.
The Dundee Circular wall light is a natural choice for living rooms, bedrooms and dining spaces where ambient, warm light is more valuable than directed task lighting. Positioned either side of a bed it creates a soft, intimate glow without the harshness of a bare bulb or a tight directional spot. In a living room or corridor it adds a sculptural element to the wall that is as beautiful in daylight as it is when illuminated. The circular alabaster shade works with a broad range of interior styles, from minimal and contemporary through to more layered, material led and maximalist schemes.
