The Dundee Circular Alabaster Wall Light, a warm glow in a perfect circle
The Dundee is a compact circular wall light measuring 25cm across, with a projection of 7.4cm from the wall and a wall bracket diameter of 12cm. A solid disc of natural alabaster stone sits within a brass frame, so the light source is fully concealed behind the stone and only the soft honeyed glow of the alabaster is visible. It is a quietly confident design, understated by day and glowing by night, and its neat proportions make it easy to place in pairs or as a single statement point.
How It Works
Two G9 bulbs sit behind the alabaster disc, and as they warm the stone the natural veining and translucency of the alabaster begin to show through, filling the room with a soft, even wash of light rather than a direct beam. Each bulb is rated at 6.5W, so running costs stay low even when the light is left on for long evenings. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable bulb, allowing the glow to be turned down for a calmer, more atmospheric feel.
Where It Works Best
Its small footprint and IP44 rating make the Dundee a genuinely flexible fitting. Use it in hallways and landings where a soft ambient glow is welcome, either side of a bathroom mirror, or along a corridor at regular intervals for a rhythmic run of light. Because it is rated for Zone 2, it also works well in ensuite bathrooms and shower rooms where a splash resistant fitting is needed, paired with brass or warm metal fixtures for a cohesive look.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting began in 2009, when architect Mike Treanor took on the restoration of a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and turned it into a working lighting studio. What started as one building's second life has grown into a team of more than 100 craftspeople, sending fittings out to over 55 countries. The alabaster collection is where that story feels most refined, taking a stone that has been used to diffuse light for centuries, prized for the way it glows from within once lit, and setting it against the studio's precise brass and metalwork.
