Mullan Coco Wall Light - Black Clay with Finish Options

Black Clay, Small Scale, Real Character

The Coco Wall Light in Black Clay is the compact wall light in the Mullan ceramic range. At 10cm tall and just 10.5cm wide with a 19cm projection, it punches well above its size in terms of visual impact. The black clay finish is applied by hand at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and fired on site, preserving the natural surface texture and variation of the clay in the finished piece. Compact does not mean plain. The deep matte black surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, giving the fitting a quiet intensity that feels genuinely considered on a wall.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces outward and slightly downward, directing the G9 bulb's warm light across the wall surface and into the room below. The black clay body reads as a small but grounded form on the wall, adding material depth at exactly the level where it can be noticed. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs, giving full control over brightness. A warm white G9 brings out the surface texture of the black clay finish most clearly at lower evening light levels.

Where It Works Best

The Black Clay Coco is well suited to bedrooms, bathrooms adjacent to dry zones, smaller living rooms and hallways where a full-scale wall light would feel out of proportion. Used as a pair either side of a bed or mirror it creates a sophisticated, considered arrangement that frees up surface space and adds genuine craft quality to the wall. The black clay finish is exceptionally versatile, working confidently with pale walls, dark joinery, warm timber and any hardware finish from polished brass to brushed nickel.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The black clay finish draws from the iron rich soils and ancient bog landscapes of that part of Ireland. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

FAQs

What bulb does the Coco Wall Light take?
It takes a G9 capsule bulb, maximum 6.5W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED G9 suits the black clay finish well. A dimmable version gives full control over the mood in the room.

Will my wall light look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The black clay finish is hand applied and fired, so surface texture and depth of tone vary naturally between pieces. Your fitting will be tonally consistent with the photos but will have its own surface character.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Coco Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated wall light and we will advise.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
