Azores Rope Pendant, opal glass with a coastal edge
Where the Tahiti and Naxos use a metal shade, the Azores is built around a softly glowing opal glass globe, 30cm across, suspended on the same 1.5 metre length of natural jute rope. The total drop reaches 189cm from a 12cm ceiling rose, and the rope's warm, textured finish gives the fitting a relaxed, seaside character that the brass framed pendants do not share.
How It Works
The Azores takes a single 40W E27 bulb (not included), and the opal glass globe diffuses it into a soft, even light rather than the directional pool you get from an open metal shade. Fit a dimmable bulb and it will dim smoothly; a standard bulb gives you full brightness only. It is a Class II fitting, so no earth connection is required.
Where It Works Best
With its IP44 rating, the Azores is happy in a bathroom Zone 2 or any humid room, a family bathroom, an ensuite, or a steamy kitchen alongside a sink. Its softer, diffused light and natural rope also suit relaxed living spaces, coastal interiors, and bedrooms where you want gentle ambient light rather than a strong downward beam.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who took on the restoration of a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and turned it into the studio it is today. That single building now supports a team of more than 100 craftspeople, exporting to over 55 countries. Alongside the ceramic collections the studio is best known for, Mullan continues to work with natural materials like jute rope and glass, of which the Azores is one result.

What bulb does the Azores take?
A single 40W E27 bulb, sold separately. A warm white bulb will suit the opal glass best.
Is the Azores dimmable?
Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb will only run at full brightness.
Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Azores is IP44 rated, which covers Zone 2 only. It is not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1, closer to the bath or shower itself.
Does the glass globe diffuse light evenly, or is it directional?
The opal glass globe spreads light evenly in all directions, giving a soft ambient glow rather than a focused downlight.
