The Mullan Azores Rope Pendant brings rustic nautical charm into an interior with a confidence and lightness that heavier fittings cannot match. A 1.5 metre jute rope suspends a 30cm opal glass globe from a ceiling rose, with the natural texture of the rope adding an organic warmth that sits beautifully alongside both contemporary and more traditional interiors. The opal glass globe diffuses light softly and evenly in all directions, creating a warm, welcoming glow that makes any room feel more considered and comfortable. Mullan Lighting was established in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor inside a restored 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland. The studio has grown from a single room operation into a facility employing over 100 craftspeople, producing lights made entirely to order and exported to more than 55 countries. The Azores is part of a collection of rope and natural material pendants that sits alongside Mullan's celebrated ceramic range, exploring different natural materials with the same commitment to quality and craft that defines everything the studio produces. The combination of jute rope and opal glass is a deliberate reference to the coastal and maritime heritage that influences this part of the collection.
The Azores pendant works particularly well in kitchens, where it sits naturally above an island or table and adds warmth and texture to what is often the most practical room in the house. In a living room, a conservatory or a garden room it brings the outside in, and in a dining space the soft light through the opal globe creates exactly the kind of atmosphere that makes people want to linger. The natural jute rope means it pairs effortlessly with rattan, timber, stone and linen, and the globe form gives it a timeless quality that design trends cannot erode.
