A Small Copper Path Light With a 90º Flange

The LuxR Modux 4 PL1 is a very small low voltage path light that sits flush in a surface and sends its light out through a 90º flange. The brand states it gives a wash of light 5º below the flange lip and 10º above, so it can light a wall surface or mark out a path. The light source is a 4 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus.

Solid Copper With a Natural Patina

This version is machined from copper. It starts out bright and warm, then slowly develops a soft natural patina outdoors, so it blends into brick, timber and planting as it ages. If you prefer a cool silver look, the same path light is also made in marine grade 316 stainless steel.

Choose Your Colour Temperature

• 2200K: a very warm, candle like glow.
• 2700K and 3000K: warm white, comfortable beside planting and timber.
• 4000K: a crisper neutral white.

How It Works

The PL1 is a recessed fitting with a 43.5mm cut out, so it is built into a wall, step riser or other surface with the flange facing the way you want the light to go. The 90º flange covers a quarter turn, so the light falls in one direction only. The fitting runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, and it is wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. The LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.

Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

Use the 90º version at the corner of a path, at the end of a wall or beside a step, where you want light in one direction and none spilling backwards. It also suits a wall surface that you want to graze with light. The same design is available with 180º, opposite facing, 270º and 360º flanges, and also in the Micro and M2 sizes.

Questions People Ask

What does the 90º flange do?

It limits the light to a quarter turn, so the PL1 throws light in one direction. This is the right choice when you want a path light on a wall or at a corner without light shining backwards.

Does the PL1 come with a driver?

No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered electrician installs it.

Will the copper change colour?

Yes. Copper develops a natural patina outdoors over time, so the finish softens and darkens gradually. This is normal and is part of its appeal.

What size hole does it need?

The cut out size is 43.5mm. The fitting comes with 1m of cable.

Can I change the LED later?

Yes. The 4 watt Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
