A Powder Coated Recessed Uplighter in Four Colours
The LuxR Modux 4 Recessed Dark Light is a very small low voltage outdoor uplighter that sits flush in a surface. The brand states it typically produces 170 lumens. The light source is a 4 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus.
UV Powder Coated Aluminium
This version is UV powder coated aluminium, which gives a smooth, even colour. Choose Matt Black to vanish into dark paving, Matt Bronze for a warm tone that suits timber and gravel, or Matt White or Matt Dark Grey to match lighter or more contemporary surfaces. For bare metal, the same dark light is also made in copper and marine grade 316 stainless steel.
Choose Your Colour and Colour Temperature
- Powder coat colour: Matt Black, Matt Bronze, Matt White or Matt Dark Grey.
- Colour temperature: 2200K is a very warm glow, 2700K and 3000K are warm white, and 4000K is a crisper neutral white.
How It Works
The fitting is recessed flush into a surface using a 43.5mm cut out and points its light upwards. The fitting runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, and it is wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. The LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
Use it to uplight a tree trunk, a wall or a feature from a lawn, a gravel bed or a paved area. Pick a colour close to the surface it sits in so the fitting stays discreet. The same design is also available in M2 and Micro sizes.

What is a recessed dark light?
It is an uplighter fitted flush into the ground or another surface, so you see the light but very little of the fitting.
Does it come with a driver?
No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered electrician installs it.
Which colours can I choose?
Matt Black, Matt Bronze, Matt White and Matt Dark Grey. Matt White and Matt Dark Grey are marked Non-Returnable. Physical colour swatches are available on request.
What size hole does it need?
The cut out size is 43.5mm. The fitting comes with 1m of cable.
Can I change the LED later?
