A Copper Recessed Uplighter That Disappears Into the Ground
The LuxR Modux 4 Recessed Dark Light is a very small low voltage outdoor uplighter that sits flush in a surface. The brand states it typically produces 170 lumens. The light source is a 4 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus.
Solid Copper With a Natural Patina
This version is machined from copper. It starts out bright and warm, then gradually develops a soft natural patina outdoors, so it blends into paving, decking and timber. For a cool silver finish, the same dark light is also made in marine grade 316 stainless steel.
Choose Your Colour Temperature
- 2200K: a very warm, candle like glow.
- 2700K and 3000K: warm white, kind to planting, brick and timber.
- 4000K: a crisper neutral white.
How It Works
The fitting is recessed flush into a surface using a 43.5mm cut out and points its light upwards. The fitting runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, and it is wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. The LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
Use it to uplight a tree trunk, a wall or a feature from a lawn, a gravel bed or a paved area, anywhere you want the light without a fitting standing in view. It is a neat choice for ground level lighting in decking or paving. The same design is also available in M2 and Micro sizes.

What is a recessed dark light?
It is an uplighter fitted flush into the ground or another surface, so you see the light but very little of the fitting.
Does it come with a driver?
No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered electrician installs it.
Will the copper change colour?
Yes. Copper develops a natural patina outdoors over time, so the finish softens and darkens gradually. This is normal and is part of its appeal.
What size hole does it need?
The cut out size is 43.5mm. The fitting comes with 1m of cable.
Can I change the LED later?
Yes. The 4 watt Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
