A Copper Step Light With a Decorative Slot
The LuxR Modux 2 Step Light with Slot is a very small low voltage step light that casts a wash of light 5º below the flange lip and 10º above it. Opposite the main beam, a narrow slot adds a fine decorative accent. This version is made from solid copper.
Copper That Weathers Naturally
Copper starts out warm and bright, then gradually develops a natural patina outdoors, so it settles into timber, brick and planting over the years. The light source is a replaceable 2 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus.
Choose Your Colour Temperature
- 2200K: a very warm, candle like glow that sits well against copper.
- 2700K and 3000K: warm white, a good all round choice.
- 4000K: a crisper neutral white.
How It Works
Recess the fitting into a 43.5mm cut out in a wall or step riser. It runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. A 1m cable is supplied. The LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
Use it to light steps, to wash the wall beside a staircase, to mark a doorway, or as a path wayfinder. The slot gives a small point of light on the opposite side, which adds interest to a plain wall. It is also available in M4.

What does the slot do?
The main beam gives a horizontal wash, 5º below the flange lip and 10º above. The narrow slot on the opposite side produces a fine decorative accent, with a very narrow upwards beam.
What size hole do I need?
You need a 43.5mm cut out. The body is 41mm across and 62mm long, and the flange is 58mm in diameter.
Does it come with a driver?
No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered electrician installs it.
Will the copper change colour?
Yes. Copper develops a natural patina outdoors over time, so the finish will soften and darken gradually. This is normal and is part of its appeal.
Can I change the LED later?
Yes. The Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
