A Small Square Recessed Spotlight in Copper

The LuxR Modux 2 Square Recessed is a very small low voltage outdoor spotlight that sits in a 43.5mm cut out. The recessed body is 41mm across and 62mm long, and the square flange is 53mm wide and only 3.5mm deep, so it sits close to the surface.

Copper That Develops a Natural Patina

This version is made from copper. It starts out warm and bright, then slowly develops a soft natural patina outdoors, so the square flange mellows against timber, brick or stone. The light source is a 2 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus, so surfaces and planting look true to colour.

Choose Your Beam, Colour and Lens

• Beam: 26º is the narrowest beam and picks out a single feature, 36º is a little wider, and 74º spreads the light across a broader area.
• Colour temperature: 2200K is a very warm glow that suits copper well, 2700K and 3000K are warm white, and 4000K is a crisper neutral white.
• Lens: clear gives the sharpest beam, while frosted softens the edges of the light.

How It Works

Cut a 43.5mm hole, drop the body in and fix it in place so the flange sits flat. The fitting runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, and it is wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. A 1m cable is supplied. The Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.

Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

The square flange gives a tidy architectural edge, which suits contemporary hard landscaping and clean lines. Copper warms it up, so it works well with timber and natural stone. Moonlight Design uses LuxR fittings in its own garden lighting designs and installations. The same design is also available as the M1 and M4.
