A Tiny Copper Louvre Recessed Wash Light
The LuxR Modux 2 Louvre Recessed is a very small low voltage recessed light that produces an attractive wash of light. It is often used to light stair treads, and it sits in a 43.5mm cut out. The beam is an asymmetric wash, so the light is thrown across a surface rather than straight down.
Copper That Ages Naturally
This version is made from copper. It looks very much at home recessed into timber, and it develops a natural patina outdoors, so it warms and darkens as the timber weathers. The light source is a 2 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus, and the fitting is rated IP68.
Choose Your Colour Temperature
- Colour temperature: 2200K is a very warm glow that suits timber, 2700K and 3000K are warm white, and 4000K is a crisper neutral white.
How It Works
Set the fitting into a 43.5mm cut out so the louvre throws its light across the tread or surface. It runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, and it is wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. The Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
Use it on timber steps, decking edges and risers, where the louvre keeps the light source out of sight and the copper blends with the wood. It is also available in M4.

What size hole do I need?
The cut out is 43.5mm.
Does it come with a driver?
No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered electrician installs it.
Will the copper change colour?
Yes. Copper develops a natural patina outdoors over time, so the finish will soften and darken gradually. This is normal and is part of its appeal.
Is it good for lighting steps?
Yes. It produces an asymmetric wash of light and is often used to illuminate stair treads.
Can I change the LED later?
Yes. The Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
