A Small Recessed Uplighter
The LuxR Modux 2 Recessed Dark Light is a small low voltage outdoor uplighter, typically producing 170 lumens. It sits in the ground or a surface with only a small flange showing. In copper it has a warm tone that settles into planting and gravel.
Copper That Weathers Naturally
This version is precision machined from copper. It starts out bright and warm, then slowly develops a soft natural patina outdoors, so each fitting gradually takes on its own character. The light source is a 2 watt Cree LED with a CRI of 90 plus.
Choose Your Options
- Colour temperature: 2200K is a very warm glow, 2700K and 3000K are warm white, and 4000K is a crisper neutral white.
How It Works
The fitting recesses into a 43.5mm cut out. It is supplied with 1m of H05RN-F cable and runs on low voltage, so it needs a suitable constant current driver, which is not included, wired in series. It is dimmable when paired with a suitable dimmable driver. The Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
Use it to uplight a tree, a wall, a column or a piece of planting from ground level. Several in a row can wash a hedge or a long wall. If you need a different size, the same design is also available in the M4 and the Micro.

Questions People Ask
How big a hole does the dark light need?
It needs a 43.5mm cut out. The body is 41mm in diameter and 87mm long, so allow for that depth below the surface.
Does it come with a driver?
No. It is a low voltage fitting and needs a suitable constant current driver, sold separately. A dimmable driver lets you dim the light. We recommend a registered NICEIC electrician installs it.
What does an uplighter like this do?
It points the light upwards from the surface, so it is used to light up trees, walls and other features from below.
Will the copper change colour?
Yes. Copper develops a natural patina outdoors over time, so the finish softens and darkens gradually. This is normal and is part of its appeal.
Can I change the LED or beam later?
Yes. The Cree LED can be replaced or swapped for a colour LED, and the optic can be changed to alter the beam width.
