A Faceted Glass Gem on a Fixed Rod
The Canary Sealed Rod Pendant is a hand blown glass shade shaped like a cut gem, widest at the middle and coming to a soft point at the base, hung from a slim fixed rod instead of a visible cable. The shade measures 200mm wide and 200mm high, so it has real presence without taking over a room. Leverint suggests it for kitchens and dining spaces, where a run of them over an island or table catches the light from every angle.
Choose Your Finish
Each pendant is made to order in your choice of hand blown glass and plated metal finish, chosen from the swatches and dropdowns above on this page. The photos show the Canary in fine ribbed, ribbed and opaque white glass on a polished brass rod. Leverint plates the rod and ceiling plate in polished brass, brushed brass, weathered brass, bronze, polished nickel or satin nickel, so you can match it to the rest of your scheme. Because the glass is blown by hand and the metal is plated by hand, the colour and texture of your pendant may vary slightly from the photos, and screens show colour differently from one device to another. If you are unsure about a finish before ordering, please call our customer service team.
How It Works
The pendant takes one G9 bulb, 1.5W maximum. It is not supplied with a bulb as standard, but you can add Leverint's G9 LED filament bulb from the dropdown above, or choose no bulb and fit your own. A filament bulb suits the ribbed glass well, because the fine lines pick up the shape of the filament. Leverint lists the pendant as mains dimmable, so it can be dimmed from a compatible dimmer switch when paired with a dimmable bulb. The rod length is made to specification, so it can be set to suit your ceiling height and how low you want the glass to hang. This is a hardwired ceiling fitting, and we recommend installation by a qualified electrician, ideally one who is NICEIC registered.
Leverint confirms this light is rated IP44, so it is suitable for bathroom use. Our guide to bathroom lighting zones explains what is allowed where.
Where It Works Best
The Canary is at its best over a kitchen island, a breakfast bar or a dining table, hung in a line of two or three at the same height or at staggered rod lengths for a more relaxed look. A single pendant also works well in a hallway, at the foot of a staircase or beside a bed. The ribbed glass breaks the light from the bulb into fine lines, while the opaque white version gives a soft, even glow that is easy on the eye over a dining table.
Made By Leverint
Leverint is a hand blown glass lighting studio based in Enfield, London, where each piece of glass is shaped by hand rather than cast in a mould. The studio says it draws on more than a century of glassblowing experience through its parent company, G Farley and Sons, and its founders bring decades of lighting design and glass artistry to every pendant. A pointed, faceted shape like the Canary's takes careful control in the blowing, because the ribs have to stay even as the glass is drawn into its form.
