A fixed head classic for washing light down a wall
The Hunza Wall Down Light is built for one job, done well: throwing a clean, even wash of light down a wall, a gable end, a pier, or a run of timber cladding. There's no beam to aim or angle to adjust. Mount it, wire it, and it does the same dependable job season after season.
This version runs on low voltage and comes in Hunza's powder coated aluminium finish, giving a matt, uniform colour rather than the raw metal look of the copper or stainless steel versions of the same fitting.
The powder coated finish
Powder coating is baked onto the aluminium body rather than sprayed on as wet paint, giving a harder, more even matt surface that holds its colour better outdoors than standard paint. It comes in seven colours: Black, Dark Grey, White, Birch, Bronze, Olive Green and Silver Star, so you can match or contrast with existing brick, render, cladding or trim. As these are made to order finishes, Hunza notes that colours shown are for indication only and can vary slightly batch to batch. Colour swatches are available on request if you want to check a shade before committing.
How it works
The head is fixed, so the direction of the wash is set when you mount it, facing up the wall or down it, whichever way you turn the housing at installation. It's suitable for mounting onto timber, masonry or stone, the body is water resistant for outdoor use, and each light is supplied with its mounting base and stainless steel fixing screws. At 75mm high and 82.5mm wide, with a 28mm projection off the wall, it sits close to the surface it's lighting.
Being a low voltage fitting, it needs a transformer to step down the mains supply, sold separately. It isn't supplied with a bulb, and to keep the IP rating and warranty intact, it must be run with a Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp. If you'd rather avoid the low voltage side, the same fixture is also available as a GU10 mains version.
Where it works best
This is a wash light rather than a spotlight, so it suits long, flat surfaces more than a single focal point: exterior walls, chimney breasts, gable ends, fence panels, or a run of render or brick you want to give texture and depth to after dark. It's a common choice in both contemporary and period gardens, and reads particularly well lined up in multiples along a boundary or building elevation.
Our experience with Hunza
Moonlight Design has worked with Hunza since we were founded in 2003, so this fitting has been part of our lighting schemes for over 23 years. We've specified it, and its GU10 and Pure LED siblings, across projects from period townhouses to new build gardens. It's one of the fittings we reach for whenever a client needs a wash of light down a wall rather than a spot on a single feature.
Good to know
- Made to order: usually ships within 2 to 3 days. If a colour is temporarily out of stock, allow 3 to 5 weeks.
- Returns: Matt Black and Matt Bronze can be returned within 14 days of delivery if unused, uninstalled and in original packaging. Matt Dark Grey, Matt Olive Green, Matt Silver Star, Matt White and Matt White Birch are made to order colours and marked non-returnable, these are final sale unless the item arrives faulty or damaged.
- Not supplied with a bulb. A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp is required to keep the IP rating and warranty valid.
- Requires a transformer, sold separately, as this is a low voltage fitting.
