A recessed GU10 eyelid step light in solid copper, for outdoor steps, low walls and path edges. The fixed eyelid hood shades the lamp and throws light down across the tread. Mains powered, wired in parallel, with no transformer needed, using a Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp sold separately.

A Recessed GU10 Eyelid Step Light in Copper
The Hunza Step Light Eyelid GU10 is the mains powered version of Hunza's recessed eyelid step light, built to sit in the side wall of an outdoor step, low wall or path edge. Its curved eyelid hood covers the top half of the lamp face, so light spills down across the tread below rather than shining out towards eye level, and there is no transformer to find room for.
Solid Copper
This version is made from solid copper, the flange and the eyelid hood both, held together with two visible fixing screws. Left outdoors, copper changes colour over time, moving from a bright pink through soft brown towards a green patina, and no two installations weather in quite the same way. If the exact stage of that patina matters to you, ask Moonlight Design for a physical swatch before you order.
How It Works
The eyelid hood is fixed in place at manufacture, so it always shades roughly half of the GU10 lamp and directs light down and forward across the step. It does not tilt, rotate or adjust once installed.
- Recessed body: 63.5mm diameter, 90mm length
- Flange: 88mm diameter, 33.5mm depth
- Cut out size: 63.5mm
- Mains voltage, wired in parallel, no transformer or driver required
The same fitting is also made as a low voltage MR16 version in the same copper finish, for anyone running an existing low voltage garden lighting circuit.
Where It Works Best
Recessed brick step lights like this one work well on outdoor steps, staircases, low retaining walls and garden walls, wherever you need to mark a level change safely without floodlighting the whole area. Being a mains GU10 fitting, it is a straightforward retrofit anywhere you already have a mains lighting circuit run to the steps.
Our Own Installations
The in situ photographs on this page, showing the eyelid recessed into brick and timber steps and lit at night, are Moonlight Design's own designs and installations. They are not stock imagery. We photograph the step lights we actually plan and fit in real gardens, so you can see how the light genuinely falls once the brickwork and planting settle in around it.

Questions People Ask
Does this eyelid step light need a transformer?
No. This is the mains GU10 version, wired in parallel straight to your mains lighting circuit, with no transformer or driver to install.
Will the copper finish change colour once it is fitted outside?
Yes, that is normal for solid copper. Expect it to darken from bright pink towards brown and eventually a green patina, at a pace that depends on your local climate and how exposed the step is.
What lamp does this fitting use?
A Hunza approved GU10 LED lamp, bought separately. Fitting a non approved lamp can affect the IP66 rating and the warranty.
Is there a low voltage version of this eyelid step light?
Yes. The same copper eyelid step light is also available as a low voltage MR16 fitting for existing transformer fed circuits.
