A Recessed Eyelid Step Light in Copper
The Hunza Step Light Eyelid is a small recessed fitting built for the side wall of an outdoor step, low wall or path edge. Its curved eyelid hood covers the top half of the lamp face, so light spills down across the tread or path below rather than shining out at eye level. It is a quiet, compact way to mark a change in level once the sun goes down.
Solid Copper
This version is made from solid copper, the flange and the eyelid hood both, held together with two visible fixing screws. Copper left outdoors changes colour over time, moving from a bright pink through soft brown towards a green patina, and no two installations will weather in quite the same way. If the exact stage of that patina matters to you, Moonlight Design can arrange a physical swatch before you order, since photographs and screens never show it perfectly true.
How It Works
The eyelid hood is fixed in place at manufacture, so it always shades roughly half of the lamp and directs light down and forward across the step. It does not tilt, rotate or adjust once installed.
- Recessed body: 63.5mm diameter, 68.5mm length
- Flange: 88mm diameter, 33.5mm depth
- Cut out size: 63.5mm
- Supplied with 1m of cable
- Low voltage, wired in parallel with a transformer (transformer and MR16 LED lamp sold separately)
This eyelid step light is also made as a GU10 mains version in the same copper finish, for anyone who would rather run straight off the mains without a transformer.
Where It Works Best
Recessed brick step lights like this one earn their keep on outdoor steps, staircases, low retaining walls and garden walls, anywhere you need to mark a level change safely without floodlighting the whole area. Set into a riser or wall base, the eyelid throws a controlled wash of light across the tread beneath it rather than a glare you can see from across the garden.
Our Own Installations
The in situ photographs on this page, showing the eyelid recessed into brick and timber steps and lit at night, are Moonlight Design's own designs and installations. They are not stock imagery. We photograph the step lights we actually plan and fit in real gardens, so you can see how the light genuinely falls once the brickwork and planting settle in around it.

Questions People Ask
Does the eyelid hood point in a fixed direction?
Yes. It is fixed at manufacture and always shades the top half of the lamp, sending light down and forward across the step. It does not tilt or rotate after installation.
Will the copper finish change colour once it is fitted outside?
Yes, that is normal for solid copper. Expect it to darken from bright pink towards brown and eventually a green patina, at a pace that depends on your local climate and how exposed the step is.
What do I need to buy alongside this fitting?
You will need a Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp and a low voltage transformer, wired in parallel. Neither is included with the fitting itself.
Is there a mains powered version of this eyelid step light?
Yes. The same copper eyelid step light is also available as a GU10 mains fitting, if you would prefer to avoid running a transformer.
