An adjustable spotlight built for a colour matched garden scheme
The Hunza Spike Spot Adjustable pushes into the ground on a spike rather than fixing to a wall, so it works anywhere in a border, a lawn edge or a planting bed where there's nothing solid to mount a light to. The head tilts and rotates so you can aim the beam exactly where you want it, whether that's a specimen tree, a piece of planting or a stretch of path.
This version is finished in a durable powder coat and runs on low voltage.
The powder coat finish
Unlike the solid copper or stainless steel versions of this fitting, the powder coat body is aluminium with a baked on matt coating, which is why it comes in a genuine range of colours: matt black, matt bronze, matt dark grey, matt olive green, matt silver star, matt white and matt white birch. The coating is chosen for weather resistance rather than natural ageing, so the colour you choose is the colour that stays. As with any painted finish, treat the colour shown on screen as a guide only, Moonlight Design can supply a physical swatch on request before you order.
How it works
Once pushed into the ground, the head can be angled and turned to point the beam at whatever you're lighting, then left in position. It measures 63.5mm across the head, 75mm along the body, with a 200mm spike and 1m of cable supplied. It isn't supplied with a bulb, and to keep the IP66 rating and warranty valid it must be run with a Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp. Being low voltage, it also needs a transformer, sold separately. The same fixture is also available as a GU10 mains version, so this colour range extends to a wired in alternative if you'd rather not run a transformer circuit.
Where it works best
Good anywhere you want a single point of light without a wall to fix to: freestanding trees, island beds, statues, or a path through open lawn. The colour range means you can match or contrast the fitting with existing ironmongery, fencing or planting, rather than being limited to a single metal tone.
Our own installations
The photographs on this page are from our own completed projects, not stock imagery: uplighting an Acer, lighting clipped trees in a courtyard planting bed, picking out a tree trunk against a brick wall and nasturtium border, lighting ornamental grasses along a brick path, and uplighting woven obelisk plant supports in raised planters. Moonlight Design has worked with Hunza since we were founded in 2003, over 23 years across their range, and the powder coat Spike Spot is usually our recommendation when a client wants a specific colour to match the rest of their garden hardware.
Good to know
- Made to order: usually ships within 2 to 3 days. If temporarily out of stock, allow 3 to 5 weeks.
- Returns: matt black and matt bronze can be returned within 14 days of delivery if unused, uninstalled and in original packaging. The other matt colourways (dark grey, olive green, silver star, white and white birch) are made to special order and cannot be returned once ordered, so do check the colour carefully first, a swatch is available on request.
- Not supplied with a bulb. A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp is required to keep the IP66 rating and warranty valid.
- Requires a transformer, sold separately, as this is a low voltage fitting.
- We recommend installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Can I fix this to a wall instead of the ground? No, this fitting pushes into soil or lawn on its integral ground spike. Hunza makes separate wall fixed spotlights if you need one that mounts to brickwork.
Which colours can I return if I change my mind? Only matt black and matt bronze are returnable within 14 days if unused and in original packaging. The other matt colourways are made to special order and are non-returnable, so we'd always suggest requesting a swatch first.
Do I need a transformer for this light? Yes. This is the low voltage version, so it needs a suitable transformer to step down the mains supply, sold separately. If you'd rather avoid running a transformer circuit, the same fitting is available as a GU10 mains version.
What bulb does it take? A Hunza approved MR16 LED lamp, sold separately. Using anything else can affect both the IP66 rating and the warranty.
