A Solid Copper Eyelid Step Light With Integrated Pure LED
This is Hunza's Pure LED Step Light Solid Eyelid in copper, the same solid metal eyelid hood as the standard version, but built around Hunza's own Pure LED chip instead of a separate replaceable lamp. The eyelid hood curves down and forward, shielding the light source from view while directing light across the step or path below.
Solid Copper Eyelid
The flange and eyelid hood are cast from a single piece of solid copper, not plated or coated onto another metal underneath, with a smooth machined finish and the Hunza name stamped into the lamp housing. Copper is a natural finish, which means it will gradually darken and develop a patina outdoors rather than staying bright. Most people choose it for exactly that reason, it ages in a way that suits brick, stone and timber settings.
How It Works
The eyelid hood covers around two thirds of the light source in a fixed position, so it cannot be aimed or adjusted after fitting, directing light down and forward across a step tread or path. Instead of a separate MR16 lamp, this Pure LED version uses a Cree LED chip built into the fitting, rated at 90+ CRI and 600 lumens from 6 watts. It is available with a choice of colour temperature from 2200K through to 4000K and beam angles from 15 to 60 degrees, so it can be specified fairly precisely at the point of order. The recessed body measures 63.5mm in diameter and 68.5mm in length, with a 63.5mm cut out. The visible flange is 88mm across and 7mm deep, and the eyelid adds a further 25mm of depth.
Pure LED fittings are wired in series rather than parallel, and run from a remote constant current LED driver, sold separately, rather than a standard transformer. If you would prefer a fitting with a conventional replaceable MR16 lamp instead, the same eyelid is also available as the standard Step Light Solid Eyelid, which runs from a normal low voltage transformer.
Where It Works Best
- Recessed into brick or masonry steps to light each tread
- Fitted into retaining walls or low garden walls beside a path
- Projects where a specific colour temperature or beam angle matters, since Pure LED lets you choose both
- Larger schemes where a wired in series LED circuit suits the overall design better than individually lamped fittings
Our Own Installations
The in situ photographs on this page, showing the eyelid recessed into brick step risers, timber railway sleeper steps and curved garden walls, are Moonlight Design's own designs and installations. They are not stock imagery. One of them shows this copper finish fitted into a run of dark brick steps, which gives a genuine sense of how the copper reads once it is in the ground rather than in a studio shot.
Good to Know
- Usually ships within 2 to 3 days. If temporarily out of stock, allow 3 to 5 weeks for a fresh batch
- Returns accepted within 14 days if the fitting is unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging
- The Cree LED chip is built in and serviceable rather than a bulb you swap yourself, and needs a compatible constant current LED driver, sold separately
- Dimmable if a suitable dimmable driver is used
- Solid copper is a natural finish and will weather and patina over time outdoors, this is expected rather than a fault
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician
- Backed by Hunza's 10 year warranty on the fitting, with 5 years on the LED itself
Questions People Ask
Does this Pure LED version use a normal MR16 bulb?
No. It has a Cree LED chip built into the fitting rather than a separate replaceable lamp, and it needs a constant current LED driver rather than a standard transformer.
Can I choose the colour temperature and beam angle?
Yes. This fitting is available in 2200K, 2700K, 3000K or 4000K colour temperatures and 15, 25, 38 or 60 degree beam angles.
Is the eyelid solid copper all the way through?
Yes. The flange and eyelid hood are a solid copper casting rather than a copper plated coating.
What is the warranty on the LED chip compared to the fitting?
The fitting itself carries Hunza's 10 year warranty, while the LED chip is covered for 5 years.
