Two beams, thrown in opposite directions
The Hunza Pure LED Path Light Surface Mount 2 Facet Opposites is a small ground light with two separate lens windows cut into directly opposite sides of the fitting, throwing light in two different directions from a single point rather than one continuous spread. That is the real difference from the 2 Facet 180º version in this same range, where both lenses share one wide window on a single side. Here the two windows are cleanly separated by solid metal at the sides, giving two independent beams instead of one broad wash. It screws straight onto the surface, with no need to core a recess into the ground first.
Marine grade stainless steel, built for exposed sites
This version is made in 316 marine grade stainless steel, the same solid metal specified for coastal and exposed installations. Hunza's own guidance notes that solid stainless steel may pick up a light surface tarnish in some environments and recommends regular washing to keep it looking its best, which is worth knowing before it goes in the ground. It keeps a clean, cool silver tone rather than the warm tone of the copper version in this same range.
How It Works
- Surface mounted base, 88mm in diameter and 32mm high, fixed with screws directly to decking, paving or a hard surface rather than recessed into a cut hole
- Domed stainless steel flange and lens head on top, 88mm in diameter and 20mm high, with two lens windows on directly opposite sides, separated by solid metal
- Each lens is a custom TIR borosilicate glass design, shaped to shed dirt, mud and water rather than trap it
- Integrated, replaceable Cree LED chip, rated at 120 lumens (700mA, 2 watts), with a colour rendering index of 90+
- Supplied with a 1 metre output cable
- Low voltage, and must be wired in series with a remote driver rather than run from a simple plug in transformer
- Dimmable if paired with a suitable dimmable driver
- IP66 rated against dust and jetting water
- 10 year guarantee on the fitting, 5 years on the LED
Where It Works Best
Because it sits on the surface rather than inside it, this is the fitting to reach for on decking, block paving, natural stone or any hard surface where cutting a recess is not practical. Two opposing beams from one fitting suit a path or driveway where light needs to reach both directions along the same line, and the stainless steel finish makes it a sensible choice for coastal gardens or anywhere exposed to salt air.
Our own installations
The wider photographs on this page, showing driveways, paths and courtyards picked out at night, are Moonlight Design's own designs and installations. They are not stock imagery. We use them to show the kind of effect a run of Hunza path lights can create along a drive or path edge, rather than to show this exact surface mounted, 2 facet fitting in close up. None of these photographs show the stainless steel finish specifically, so please treat the studio photography above as the accurate guide to colour and material.
Good to Know
- Usually ships within 2 to 3 days. If out of stock, allow 3 to 5 weeks
- 14 day returns if the light is unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging
- The LED chip is integrated and replaceable, there is no separate bulb to buy
- Needs a remote low voltage driver wired in series, check what driver capacity is already available on the circuit before ordering
- We recommend having all outdoor lighting installed by a registered NICEIC electrician
- Stainless steel may develop a light surface tarnish over time, Hunza recommends an occasional wash to keep it looking its best
Questions People Ask
Why choose a surface mounted path light instead of a recessed one?
A surface mounted fitting like this one is fixed straight to the top of decking, paving or any hard surface with screws, so there is no need to core a hole or set a housing into the ground during construction. That makes it a practical choice for an existing patio or deck where digging in a recessed light is not realistic.
What is the difference between 2 Facet Opposites and 2 Facet 180º?
Both have two lenses, but they sit in different places. On this Opposites version the two windows sit on directly opposite sides of the fitting, separated by solid metal, giving two independent beams pointing away from each other. On the 180º version the two lenses share one wide window on a single side instead, giving a continuous spread across roughly 180 degrees. Choose Opposites when light needs to reach in two directions from one point, and 180º for a wide wash along one line.
Does stainless steel need any special maintenance outdoors?
Not routinely, but Hunza notes that solid stainless steel can pick up a light surface tarnish in some environments, and recommends washing it occasionally to keep the finish looking clean.
Does this light need a transformer?
It needs a compatible remote LED driver rather than a standard low voltage transformer, wired in series rather than in parallel. An electrician can confirm what is already available on your circuit.
