Choosing Black and Smoked

Matte black gives the fitting a graphic, almost architectural presence against a pale wall, and the smoked bulb keeps its light warm and contained rather than spread wide, well suited to a considered, atmospheric space. If a brighter, more even glow is preferred in the same black finish, the frosted bulb version is the alternative.

How It Works

Bee runs on an 8240mAh, 3.7V battery, removed from the fitting to charge and clipped back onto its wall plate once full, so there is no cable or socket near the wall itself. The E27 low voltage LED bulb is rated 0.5W at 2300K with a CRI of 93, and three dimming levels are built in, low for 170 to 220 hours per charge, medium for 60 to 80 hours, high for 30 to 40 hours. The fitting measures Ø120 x H180mm, weighs 0.51kg, and carries an IP65 rating.

Where It Works Best

An IP65 rating means this Bee is suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2, beside a bath, shower or sink, somewhere a mains wall light usually needs an electrician to install (see our bathroom lighting zones guide for what each zone covers). The black finish and smoked bulb also suit a dark hallway or a moody bedroom corner where a bright frosted glow would feel wrong.

Humble was founded in Amsterdam in 2018 by Jorren Teertstra and fellow Dutch industrial design engineers Gert, Tom, Lenny and Douwe, built around the idea of a wireless alternative to candlelight. Their first lamp, the Humble One, set the cordless, clip together approach that Bee still follows today.

Questions People Ask

Does black show water marks in a bathroom? The matte aluminium finish is built to an IP65 rating for damp conditions, and a quick wipe is normally enough to keep it looking clean.
