Choosing Beige and Frosted

Beige sits quietly against most wall colours without drawing attention to itself, and the frosted bulb spreads its light widely rather than throwing a hard beam, so the wall glows rather than showing a single bright point. Want something more contained and moodier instead? The same shape comes with a smoked bulb.

How It Works

Bee runs on an 8240mAh, 3.7V battery, charged away from the wall plate and clipped back into place afterwards, so there is never a cable or a socket near the fitting itself. Its E27 low voltage LED bulb is rated at 0.5W with a warm 2300K colour temperature and a CRI of 93, giving light close to daylight quality without the running cost of a mains fitting. Three dimming levels are built in, low for 170 to 220 hours per charge, medium for 60 to 80 hours, and high for 30 to 40 hours. The fitting itself measures Ø120 x H180mm, weighs 0.51kg, and carries an IP65 rating.

Where It Works Best

IP65 means Bee is rated for bathroom zones 1 and 2, beside a bath, shower or sink, somewhere a mains wall light usually cannot go without an electrician (see our guide to bathroom lighting zones for what each zone allows). Beyond the bathroom, it suits a stairwell, a reading nook beside a bed with no nearby socket, or a covered porch.

Made By Humble

Humble was founded in Amsterdam in 2018 by Jorren Teertstra alongside fellow Dutch industrial design engineers Gert, Tom, Lenny and Douwe, with the aim of building a wireless alternative to candlelight. Their first lamp, the Humble One, set the template every design since has followed, real light without a plug, a cable or a socket in sight.

Questions People Ask

Does it need to sit near a socket? No. The wall plate is fixed in place and holds no charge itself, Bee clips on and off so the light can be recharged separately with no cable running to the wall.

Can it go in a shower or over a bath? Its IP65 rating covers bathroom zones 1 and 2, so beside a bath or shower is fine. Check our bathroom lighting zones guide if you are placing it somewhere less familiar.

How bright is the lowest setting? Low is built for longevity rather than task lighting, around 170 to 220 hours per charge, better suited to ambience than reading by.
