Knurled brass and fluted glass, built for texture as much as light

Shaw is a single arm wall light from Hudson Valley Lighting, built around a broad, knurled candlecup that holds an elongated, fluted glass diffuser. The ridged metal and vertical fluting give the fitting a tactile quality that a plain cylinder wouldn't have, so it reads as a detailed piece even from a distance.

Old bronze finish with fluted glass

The candlecup and backplate are finished in old bronze, a warm, deliberately aged metal tone that suits dark joinery, panelling and traditional kitchen cabinetry. The diffuser is clear fluted glass rather than alabaster, so its appearance is consistent piece to piece, with the fluting softening the bulb inside into a warm, textured glow.

How it works

Shaw takes a single tubular "T" type E27 bulb, maximum 40W (not supplied), which sits inside the fluted glass so the light reads as a warm linear glow rather than a hard point source. It measures around 39.4cm in height, 6.4cm in width, and projects roughly 9.5cm from the wall. As a mains wired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where it works best

Shaw is suited to kitchens and dining rooms, for example flanking a range or mounted either side of open shelving, where its texture holds up well against tiling and cabinetry. It also works as an accent in a hallway or snug where a smaller, detailed wall light is wanted.
