A vintage inspired swing arm sconce with real adjustability

Hillsdale takes its cue from early twentieth century task lighting, built around a cast metal swivel joint that lets the arm swing and tilt so light can be aimed exactly where it's needed. A custom linen shade sits over the bulb, softening what would otherwise be a fairly functional, work light silhouette into something suited to everyday living spaces.

Aged brass finish with a linen shade

The arm, swivel and backplate are finished in aged brass, a warm, softly burnished metal tone that pairs naturally with dark paint, panelling and traditional joinery. The shade itself is linen fabric, giving a soft, slightly textured diffusion rather than a hard edged pool of light.

How it works

Hillsdale takes a single E14 bulb rated up to 40W (not supplied), housed within the linen shade at the end of the swing arm. It measures around 25.4cm in height and 15.24cm in width, with a projection of up to 24.13cm thanks to the swivel arm, and weighs 1.9kg. As a mains wired fitting, installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Where it works best

It suits living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways where an adjustable, directional light is useful, for example beside a bed for reading, above a desk, or next to an armchair. Its swing arm movement makes it more practical than a fixed sconce in spots where you want to redirect the light from time to time.
