Barron takes its cue from a wave of early twentieth century Danish design, when architects worked hard to soften the harsh glare of new electric light. Hudson Valley's response is this single arm wall sconce, topped with a flat black disc that sits over a tiered white opal glass diffuser, so the light emerges gently diffused rather than as a hard point source.

Aged brass finish

The visible metalwork on Barron is finished in aged brass, a warm, slightly burnished tone that plays well against the black textured disc and opal glass, and reads comfortably in both traditional and more contemporary rooms. The aged brass detailing is used sparingly, at the fitting's edges and candlecup, rather than across the whole piece.

How it works

It takes a single E14 bulb rated up to 40W (not supplied), diffused through the tiered opal glass to give a soft, layered glow. Barron measures around 21cm in height and 20cm in width, projecting about 24cm from the wall. As a mains wired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where it works best

The shape and scale suit living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways where a single, gently diffused accent light is wanted, for example beside a doorway, above a console table or flanking a piece of artwork.
