A 1960s inspired sconce with a gold leafed interior

Banks takes its shape from 1960s lighting design, updated with a warmer, more tactile finish. Light spills both upward and downward from the shade, catching a hand applied gold leaf interior on its way out, so even a simple two bulb sconce reads as a warm, glowing object rather than a plain fixture.

This version pairs a soft white painted steel exterior with a gold leaf lining, a combination that keeps the fitting feeling light and contemporary from the outside while still giving a warm, golden cast to the light itself. It sits comfortably in rooms built around a lighter palette that could otherwise feel a little cool.

How it works

Banks takes two E27 bulbs rated up to 40W each (not supplied), angled so light reads both above and below the shade. It measures around 43cm in height, 19cm in width and projects about 14cm from the wall. As a mains wired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where it works best

It suits living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways where an upward and downward wash of light is wanted, for example either side of a doorway, above a sideboard, or spaced along a landing.
