Aged old bronze and alabaster, cast into a quietly sculptural wall light

Argon is a single arm wall light from Hudson Valley Lighting that sets a ridged old bronze candlecup against a smooth, cylindrical alabaster diffuser, all carried on a slim rectangular backplate. It's a good example of the brand's approach to a familiar sconce shape, adding just enough material contrast to make the fitting feel considered rather than purely functional.

Old bronze finish with natural alabaster

The backplate and candlecup are finished in old bronze, a warm, deliberately aged metal tone that reads well against dark paint, panelling and traditional joinery. The diffuser itself is genuine alabaster stone, so the colour and veining you receive will differ slightly from the next piece and from any photography you've seen online. That variation is part of working with a natural material rather than a flaw, though it's worth bearing in mind if you're ordering a symmetrical pair.

How it works

Argon takes a single E27 bulb rated up to 40W (not supplied), positioned inside the alabaster diffuser so the light reads soft and warm rather than as a direct point source. It measures around 39cm in height and 11cm in width, projecting about 10cm from the wall, and wires directly into the mains, so installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Where it works best

It suits living rooms, hallways, bedrooms and dining rooms where a warm accent light is wanted rather than a primary source, for example either side of a fireplace or mirror, flanking artwork, or spaced along a hallway or staircase wall. The alabaster glow and old bronze finish sit comfortably in traditional and transitional interiors built around brass and warm metal tones.
