A softer finish for the Plantation range
The Plantation Single Wall Light in Pearl Bronze is a single arm bathroom wall light with a pineapple shaped clear optic glass shade. It is the warmer, more antiqued alternative to the collection's brass and nickel finishes, set apart by a painted ivory candle sleeve rather than a matching metal one.
Pearl Bronze and ivory detailing
Pearl Bronze is a warm, softly antiqued steel finish, with the elaborate cast detailing carried through the arm and base that runs across the Plantation range. The ivory painted sleeve sits alongside the pineapple shaped clear optic glass shade, which catches and scatters light through its faceted surface. It suits warm woods, brushed metals and other traditional bathroom fittings.
How it works
This wall light takes one G9 LED bulb, up to 3W, which is not supplied so you will need to order one separately. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs and use a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting is wired to Class I, which means it needs an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
With an IP44 rating, this light is suitable for bathroom zone 2 and the area outside the zones, so it can go up beside a mirror, over a vanity unit, or elsewhere in a bathroom. Our guide to bathroom lighting zones and regulations explains exactly where fittings like this one are permitted. It also suits hallways, landings and bedrooms where a softer, traditional wall light is wanted.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley's story began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. After Phil fell ill in the mid 1930s, travelling salesman Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business, then took full control when Phil died in 1937 and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it. Stanley's grandson Rick Wiedemer joined in 1969 and spent fifty years steering the company, before a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, began taking on leadership roles around 2000. The cast detailing and pineapple glass on this Plantation wall light echo those early lantern making instincts, even though this particular piece is built for a bathroom rather than a porch. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
