The frame is steel finished in black, giving it a versatile edge that works equally well against pale walls or darker schemes. The three opal glass shades spread an even, softly diffused light rather than the more textured glow of seeded or ribbed glass, and this Hollis design is also available in white for a lighter look.

How it works

This fitting takes 3 x E14 bulbs, sold separately, so you will need to add three to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. The fitting is wall mounted onto a standard wall box and wired to Class I, which means it must be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

With an IP44 rating, this Hollis wall light is suitable for use within bathroom lighting zones and regulations, specifically zone 2 and the outside zone. Its wide spread also suits a hallway, stairwell or larger bedroom wall where a single narrow fitting would look lost.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started small. Phil R. Hinkley opened the business in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922 with a debut catalogue of just 14 outdoor lanterns, a modest start for a name that now puts wall lights like this Hollis into rooms across the world. When tuberculosis took hold in the 1930s, Phil sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil died in 1937 Stanley bought the rest and moved his own family to Cleveland to keep it running. Stanley's grandson Rick joined the company in 1969, a career that spanned fifty years, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles of their own. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs, this Hollis fitting included, for UK homes, converting each one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
