The Hollis wall light pairs two opal glass shades side by side on a black steel frame, giving an even, soft glow rather than a single bright point. At 23cm high and 38.1cm wide it is a compact fitting, so it earns its place beside a mirror, a headboard or a front door without overwhelming the space.

The frame is finished in a deep, matte black steel that reads as modern or traditional depending on what it is paired with. The opal glass shades are solid rather than textured, so light spreads evenly across both lamps for a consistent glow, rather than the dappled look you get from ribbed or seeded glass. The same design is also available in a white finish with matching opal shades.

This is a two light wall fitting that takes 2 x E14 bulbs, which are not supplied, so add two LED bulbs to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. It is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

This Hollis wall light carries an IP44 rating, which covers zone 2 and outside the zones under the bathroom lighting zones and regulations, so it can sit beside a bathroom mirror or vanity. It works just as well outside the bathroom, in a hallway, on a landing or either side of a bed.

The story behind Hinkley

Phil R. Hinkley founded the company in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1922, with a debut catalogue of just 14 outdoor lantern designs. When ill health forced him to step back in the mid 1930s, he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, who bought the remaining half after Phil died in 1937 and moved his own family to Cleveland to run the company. Three further generations of Wiedemers have carried it forward since, including Rick, who joined in 1969 for a fifty year career. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, including this Hollis wall light, for UK wiring and full CE certification, which is how a fitting with American roots ends up rated for a British bathroom.
